4.5 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HITS AEOLIAN ISLANDS

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake has hit the Aeolian Islands causing damage to buildings in Lipari. The Civil Protection Agency is currently verifying damage. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology registered the event at 2.54 p.m. with the quake’s centre at a depth of 19 kilometres. The Speaker of the Senate, Renato Schifani, is on holiday in the area and is personally overseeing matters .
