A group of researchers from Xiamen University (China) has come up with the first vaccine against Hepatitis E. An article published in The Lancet Journal gave the news. It is estimated that up to one third of the world’s population could be exposed to or directly infected with Hepatitis E, which is mainly passed on through contact with sewage, although infection in the wealthier countries is rare. 100 thousand volunteers took part in the new test, the results of which, according to the Chinese researchers, were “extraordinary”: of the 50 thousand people immunised, there was not one single case of hepatitis. The vaccine is injected in two doses.
