Financial Police uncovered undeclared earnings to the value of 22,2 billion euros in the first five months of 2010. A Fiscal Police communique’ says that another 3.7 billion euros of unpaid VAT should be added to this figure.
During the same period, the Financial Police also unearthed a total of 3,790 tax evaders, accounting for a total 7.9 billion euros earned illegally: 1,390 of these have been denounced to the Public prosecutor’s Office under the heading of “guilty of serious misdemeanours” .
