Eleven people have died in a fire on a bus in the capital, started by a San Salvador gang. For reasons the police say “are not yet clear”, men from the ‘Mara 18’ gang “wanted to prove something to the authorities”, which involved torching a minibus. Eight people were injured.
According to Chief of Police, Roberto Villalobos, this was a response by the criminal fraternity to police attempts to crack down on lawlessness.
