The European parliament has unanimously approved a resolution asking for a revision of Sakineh’s sentence. The MEPs have asked the Iranian government to guarantee the woman a fair trial. Many members arrived in the house wearing shirts with pictures of Sakineh on them. The text of the resolution expressed “consternation” because Iran is one of the few countries in the world that uses stoning as a punishment and it invited the Iranian parliament to ban the practice.
