FRANCE: NEW STRIKE AGAINST PENSIONS REFORM

More strikes have sparked in France against the pensions reform scheme which raises the retirement age from 60 to 62. Since last evening various intercity railways have halted and commuters were the once who suffered the most in morning traffic. The unrest has not however reached most flights and international trains; the disruption will be heavier in schools and public transportation. Unions hope that the protests have a greater following than the one registered on September 7 in which, according to labour organisations, something between 2.5 and 2.7 million people participated (though police reported 1.1 million).
