Italian soldiers that are part of the ISEF mission in Afghanistan are on high alert in view of the elections. Elections for the renewal of the Lower House will be held on Saturday 18th throughout the country and extremists have resorted to threats and intimidation. In the province of Herat, where the Italian contingent is deployed, there have been no specifically hostile acts or signs of possible threats.
