MAN TAKES HOSTAGES IN GERMAN DEPARTMENT STORE

Berlin – An armed man has taken a number of hostages in a large clothing store in the center of Leipzig. “We know he is holding a number of hostages,” said a police spokeswoman, Anke Fittau, who also said that a number of people released by the unknown man, “were completely upset, fallen to pieces, crying.” At 12:20 the man barricaded himself and his hostages on the first floor of H&P, in the woman’s clothing department.

It is not known whether he is carrying a real weapon or a toy gun. Ambulances are on the scene and local law enforcement have surrounded the building. At 3 p.m. news came that the police were able to make contact with the man.
