Afghanistan’s health authorities claim that more than 60pc of population suffers from mental problems. The figure was released in conjunction with World Mental Health Day events. Widespread poverty, dire living conditions and decades of conflict are taking their toll, with women and children most affected.Afghanistan currently offers a mere 200 hospital beds and two qualified psychiatrists.
