PAKISTAN: U.N., LARGE LANDOWNERS DEVIATED FLOODWATERS

According to the Ambassador to the UN, in Pakistan, large landowners deviated floodwaters towards poorer villages. In an interview to the BBC, Abdullah Hussai Haroon confirmed some of the suspicions expressed by the Catholic agency FIDES. “There is proof that landowners built dykes to deviate floodwaters towards the undefended villages of poor farmers”, said the diplomat, who also called for an official inquiry into the case.
