London – British soldiers first opened fire on demonstrators, according to the official report on Bloody Sunday. Prime Minister David Cameron made the announcement while presenting the conclusions of the inquest into the events on that Sunday in 1972 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland when paratroopers shot 14 civil rights demonstrators. The prime minister described the shootings as “unjustified and unjustifiable”.
