At least five native children, bitten by vampire bats, were killed by rabies in the Peruvian Amazon region. The victims, ages 5 to 10, belonged to the native communities Awajun and Wampis, and lived in the Amazonia jungle near the border with l’Ecuador, some 1000 km north of Lima.
