On the centenary of her birth the Pope called Mother Teresa “an inestimable gift of God.” In a message read out during a mass at the Missionaries of Charity centre in Calcutta, Benedict XVI said he was confident that “this year will be, for the church and the world, a joyous opportunity to give thanks to God” for a gift that is continuing “via the enthusiastic and tireless work” of her sisters.
