The Pope commented that new media and new technologies “can lead one to confuse the real with the virtual.” Benedict XVI was speaking to the Catholic Press Congress. Often, he explained: “the filming of an event, whether sad or happy, can be consumed as a show and not as an opportunity for reflection.” The Pontiff added: “The search for ways to a genuine promotion of man is then pushed into the background, because the event is mainly shown to arouse emotions.” Then finally: “These aspects sound a warning bell: and ask that we consider the danger that the virtual drives us far from reality and will not push us to look for the truth, for reality.”
