Two ancient Roman ships were found lying in up to 500 metres of water off the island of Panarea.
The wrecks were laden with hundreds of Dressel 21-22 type amphoras dating back to the 1st cent. a.C. The amphoras were used to carry garum, fresh and dried fruit and various cereals. It appears they were made in the Lazio area.
