Russia is to import 613 billion dollars (454 billion euro) of weapons to modernise its armed forces. Minister of Defence, Anatoly Serdyukov, announced that Russia will look abroad to update its weaponry, commenting: “Often our weapons don’t meet the necessary standards. In this situation we act like consumers… Our manufacturers are offering us dated models, but we don’t want to buy them.” .
