The Polish-French 1992 Nobel Prize for Physics winner Georges Charpak passed away in Paris at the age of 86. The scientist won the prize in recognition of his invention and development of particle detectors, in particular the “multiwire proportional chamber” which he invented in 1968. Born in Dabrowica, Poland, he was naturalised as a French citizen in 1946. .
