59 New York taxi drivers were arrested for charging twice the legal fare. They doctored their meters, applying suburban tariffs even when they never left the city. The fraud netted over 235 thousand dollars in over 77000 rides. The Taxi and Limousine Commission president, David Yassky, stated that authorities are investigating some 2000 more drivers.
