The US top military commander in Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal, has been recalled to Washington. The decision to recall him comes after General McChrystal, in an interview with magazine Rolling Stone, criticised the Obama administration for its handling of the war in Afghanistan.
The general was summoned to attend the monthly meeting on Afghanistan at the White House in person rather than by video conference as usual. McChrystal had previously apologised for his remarks and dismissed his press officer.
